BOOK REVIEWS
Make your Healthcare Organisation a Learning Organisation

"Good Lord!! A book about the healthcare industry written by people who obviously understand it! You might even think they work in it! Heresy!!
And people who understand the principles of learning and knowledge principles! What next?
This book is a must for anyone working in a healthcare system that needs to maintain pace with changing investor or public expectation (Well that's 99% of us!) My experience of "toolkits" and "exercises" like this often patronises or annoys me, but in this book the processes are so relevant to the real environment in which patients and carers expect the best service and outcomes possible.
The most relevant and practical management support book I've bought"
A reader from West Midlands
, United Kingdom

''This book reinforces the workplace ethos of the NHS. If you are a lay person reading this book it inspires confidence in that the NHS is committed to the educational/professional development of the organisation and the people who work within it''
UPDATE

''This book deals with a very important concept that has much to offer the health service. Those involved in primary care policy should read this book''
BRITISH JOURNAL OF GENERAL PRACTICE

''I recommend this book as a guide to the development of learning organisations that gives direction for those charged with such an essential task''
NURSING STANDARD

''This book inspires confidence that the NHS is committed to the educational/professional development of the organisation and the people who work within it''
CLIMB UPDATE

''In aiming for a comprehensive text, the authors cover a good deal of ground on organisational development and learning. The result is a wide-ranging guide to implementing some of the ideas on organisational learning currently popular within the NHS. The book provides a useful introduction to organisational learning and should encourage anyone interested to read more widely around the subject. I would particularly recommend it for undergraduate students and for managers coming to the subject for the first time''
BRITISH JOURNAL OF HEALTHCARE COMPUTING AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

''This book addresses everyone who works in the healthcare community with its message of lifelong learning for all staff to increase the quality of care in the National Health Service. A useful guide for planning strategies of learning''

INFORMATICS IN PRIMARY CARE

Statutory & Mandatory Training Toolkit
Statutory and mandatory training is an area that all healthcare organisations are required to tackle, yet it is commonly undertaken as a tick-box exercise without flair or creativity. Proof of attendance at a training course is not in itself proof of competence. This practical reference has been designed to ......support health and social care organisations wanting to create a structured approach to statutory and mandatory training, to review existing training or just to make improvements to ensure legal compliance and safe working practices. It provides logical, step-by-step guidance to reassure managers and trainers that they are meeting their legal responsibilities and therefore minimising the risk of litigation. It also offers frameworks and templates for assessing and recording competence and identifying further training needs. Statutory and Mandatory Training in Health and Social Care will be useful to everyone involved in training with responsibilities at strategic and operational level, and particularly to chief executives, directors and senior managers, human resources staff, safety officers, clinical governance managers, cross-infection nurses, community and school nurses, and managers of GP surgeries, care homes, residential nursing homes, day centres, and nurseries.
